East Asian Games 2009 Interactive Quiz – "10 Questions race"
A day out of school and a chance to win Gold!
The Client
The East Asian Games 2009 Committee was set up to win the Games for Hong Kong and then promote the games.
The Reason
With Beijing holding the Olympics in 2008 very few people actually knew that Hong Kong had won the bid to hold the much smaller East Asian Games in 2009. For this reason the government set about to inform the public, and in particular school children, about the games and its history through a permanent exhibition in Central district Hong Kong. For part of that exhibition The Egg was selected to provide the Interactive Quiz Games to test the knowledge of visitors after they had been through the entire exhibition gallery.
The Benefits
The Exhibition was divided up into 5 different areas that were colour coded. Each of these sections focused on a separate part of the East Asian Games story. When designing the interactive quiz The Egg team mirrored this colour coded separation and asked the visitors specific questions on the content of each area. The visitors started the game by selecting a character to play in the "10 Questions Race". The choice was either a female or male athlete. They had to answer 10 rapid fire questions about sport, the Olympic movement and The East Asian Games. The number of correct answers would decide the medal they would receive at the end of the game – Gold, Silver or Bronze.
The Conclusion
The interactive games designed by The Egg provided a good focus for visitors (especially children) who knew they would be tested on what the saw at the end of their visit. Awarding the visitor with either a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal also gave them a clear indication on how much of the information they retained. Getting a Gold also gave the winner "bragging rights" which was not lost on the school parties who attended.
